Unit 3 (:

* Name of the game that taught you the MOST about its learning topic: Sigma Prime
* What social issue or educational topic does the game explore? Math
* What can you learn from this game? It teaches you about prime numbers
* What game genre is it? Do you think this genre is a good choice for creating a learning game? Why or why not? Yes, because there are a bunch of possibilites with math.
* Design Analysis (Does it look good? Does it clearly illustrate the issue or learning concept?)Yes, the graphics are simple, but very detailed and unique.
* Usability Analysis (Is it clear what you need to do as a player? Does it work well?) Yes, it does. The steps are simple and the directions
* Suggestions for improvement. How would you change the gameplay to make the learning and play experience work together better? Maybe for the numbers to go by slower?
* List 2-3 things that you would like to learn how to do (in terms of functionality, design or content) I learned how to Divide numbers fast & easy.
* Name of the game that taught you the LEAST about its learning topic: Flood Escape
* What social issue or educational topic does the game explore? I honestly have no clue!
* What can you learn from this game? How to help people during floods
* What game genre is it? Do you think this genre is a good choice for creating a learning game? Why or why not? Enviorment. Yes, because the enviroment envolves everybody
* Design Analysis (Does it look good? Does it clearly illustrate the issue or learning concept?) Yes, the designs are great!
* Usability Analysis (Is it clear what you need to do as a player? Does it work well?)No, not really
* Suggestions for improvement. How would you change the gameplay to make the learning and play experience work together better? Maybe a bit easier?
* List 2-3 things that you would like to learn how to do (in terms of functionality, design or content)

Hidden Objects - Flash

We had to create a hidden objects game; A hidden objects game is a educational (in this case) game were objects are hidden, and you must find them.

Mine was about treasure. You must FIND the shovel and then you dig down to the key and FIND it, and then the treasure.

Besides last year, this was the first time using flash, especially for this subject.

The codes were very easy, and there were a ton of possibilites for this. You could simpley do a forest or a park, and do it in maybe a days time! It's fun AND  easy! (:

Hidden Objects games

I really enjoyed playing the hidden objects games, because i loved finding all the objects, and having to actually do work to have to find them.

I am somewhat excited to start my hidden objects game. I have some really good ideas, and i think there is a lot of differently choices with these subjects, and this type of game! (:

Single Story

What does it mean to have a single story? It means that when somebody meets one person from a place that they've never been and they automatically assume that everybody else from that place is like that. It means not to judge a region just because you meet one person and automatically assume that the rest of the region is like that one person. Judge people separately instead of assuming just because you have only heard one story of that place or meet one person from there. Everybody is different and there is never a single story.

When I hear people talking about Iaeger when I am away from home, they speak of people who smoke marijuana and people who have bad drug addictions. Because I live in Iaeger, I am sometimes offended by this statement but then I understand why they said it. I do know that there are people here that smoke Marijuana and who have bad drug addictions, and I know that there is more than one person who has these problems. Because People always talk about people having these problems than people think that we only have a single story, even though I know there are some people who grow up and get an education instead of getting bad addictions to drugs.

Growing up I always heard people talking about Paris, Expensive clothes and elegant food, People who glide across the floor out of habit. I was never told about how there are people there who sometimes have to go home to a empty house and sleep on the floor or about people who beg for money on the side of the road. I had only been told a single story of Paris. I obviously know now that I'm older; I understand that not everybody can buy elegant food or wear fancy, expensive clothes. This was a single story of Paris that I was always told.

A game could educate people about places that often have a single story. They could the game character in a 'single story' Environment. And let the player see how people there might have cars or how possibly they live on the road and maybe how diverse everybody is and make the player see and understand that there is never a single story, and it's not too good to assume.

Write about what you hope to do in the Globaloria course. What kind of game will you make? What are you most excited or scared about?

I hope to finish and complete a great game with my partner! I hope to understand gaming codes better, and get more perspectives on globaloria itself. I want to get more advanced in technology and know what to do when there is a game problem, or even a computer problem.

Our game will be in social studies. A learning game of history, and also a bit fun!

I am both excited and scared for the final months when our game really needs to be it's best, and our deadline is coming to an end. I'm excited because I want to step back, and simply look at what my partner and I have created. I am scared because I know there will be so much preasure, and what if something is wrong? Than, we'll have to work super hard to try and fix that!

Globy Awards (:

The comparisons between my game last year, and the globy award games!

Obviously the "Globy Award" games are winners! They're professional, wonderfully edited, great codes, great ideas and amazing grafics!

However, our games (Mine) is not even completely finished, sloppy, poor codes and bad graffics!

The reasons why they are "winners" are obvious! Even though the differences are easy to see, there are some simularities! I will start first with pointing out the most simple, and then go onto to less known things.

1) They're both games
2) They both are "fun"
3) They are both educational
4) They both involve globaloria
5) HOPEFULLY they have codes
6) It took teamwork!
7) They have been reviewed by our teachers
8) They were both entered in the globaloria game contest

I am sure there are plenty of more both simularities and differences! But those are just the few that comes across my mind! Seeing the "Globy Award" games i think will push us all to try harder! Even though i'm sure all of our games had plenty of HARD, DEMANDING, TIME CONSUMING, work put into them, sometimes it's not enough! And sometimes, it's exactly enough!

"Always try harder" is a great lesson from this, and realizing the simularities and differences is a great exercise for helping us with that mission!

End of the year :'(

Today (May, 25, 2012) is the last Friday in my 7th grade year that will be in Globaloria. Every Friday, we blog, && this is our last blog this year! We were told to make a blog at the beginning, posting on it every Friday, and at the time, we had no idea what was in store for us, how hard it would be, and what it would be about.

The beginning started off rough, but dilatable. We first started off just doing Game Demos and Mini Games, but only a few months into the class, we began our game. That was the hard part! Codes were more difficult than anything I had dealt with.

My partner ad I worked SUPER hard to make sure our graphics were good, our codes were correct, and game was intelligent. Working together with a partner was something new to most of us, and it took awhile to get comfortable with us. Luckily, we all comprehended, and we talked whenever we got a free chance, and by that, we became better friends and working partners!

Our teacher (Mr. Addair) was fairly new to Globaloria himself and it was a GREAT learning experience for ALL of us. Although he couldn't always give us the correct answer, we always managed to get the information somehow, usually from the helpdesk, and we were ERY willing to share the info with others to help him out!

In summary, Globaloria is a HARD class. It comes with many struggles, and sometimes it's so complex that you just have to walk away for a second, take a breather, and then come back and give it your best. It is however, a WONDERFUL learning experience when you just set back, look at all your work, and enjoy it.

Qhat we have left :)

So far, I have a lot more coding I have to do to my game. I have emailed the help desk and ask for some of the codes that I need! I also have to redo my “about scene” and “instructions”  scene because I need to find away to incorporate the Egyptian theme into them more then announcing  colors which I have right now. I have redone the congratulations scene to match the theme and am currently working on the “sorry” scene to fit.

I imagine the coding will be the hardest, but yet the most important. I have tried a lot of codes, but they are EXTREMLY hard as of right now. I need the codes to make my ‘hero’ jump and move left to right using the arrow keys. I also need the codes for when he catches a correct bubble it goes to a “fun fact” screen and when he catches a wrong bubble it goes to a sorry screen. That’s really all the codes I need and I honestly hope to get them first.

If today was Presentation :-/

If  today was our presentation day I would be freaking out at the moment. My game isn't even half way finished and I only have a few more weeks to get it done.

If I was presenting I could imagine the fancy people comments about my game. So far they would be wondering why my people wouldn't move. Also why the game wasn't educational.

The teacher would be mad too, saying I was slacking and lazy and all that. But, Thank God it's not presentation day although it is very close.

Three Things

Well I have learned a couple things while we have been working on the game.

The first thing is that I learned how to use codes.

The second thing is I learned how to use tween.

The last but not least thing is I learned how to make things move.

This is what I have learned during the process of makeing this game.

Our Partners

My partner and I have a lot more things for our game.We have gotten a couple of loading scenes done, but that is about it though. I think our game is going to be very good. Hopefully we will be able to get it done in time. I think it will have to be a work in progress.
It will be very great once my partner and I actually start working on everything together. The only thing that I am worried about is I am afraid that my game will not be done by the deadline. That is what worries me the most out of everything that we are doing.

Flash

I have done a lot of things to do with flash! We have made a platform game and it was awesome! It took us a littlw while to do it because everyone had to get caught up with everything and everyone had to stay on task, by not doing or working on anything else. I have really enjoyed working on flash because it is fun when you get to tween and make your characters move from left to right, or up and down! During the time of making our game I had to learn how to make my enemies move and my hero! After I had learned hpw to make them move it was a piece of cake after that! SO this is what we do when we get to work on adobe flash player!
What is going great
In our game their is allot of good things going on one of those good things are. Our levels I am really pleased with our game the levels play good and it's a big relief that they work.
Their are a few gliches in the first level in our to get the screen to follow you up you have to keep a close eye on the right key bord aroww.

What we need to work on
our game dose look great but only from a far distance it is easy to tell that it needs more detail. The things I really want to work on are the platforms they need more detail to make them look like somthin that you would fing in a pyrimid but for now the game is fine.
As for my partner is doing great with me I like the fact that he can spot the littlest details that make the biggest of difference.

Egypt and buttons
The few things that are confusing me and my partner are buttons.
We have tried to use code snips but nothing works. The code snips aren't to useful but in some cases they cane be but not in ours.

Platform Games

We created our platform games and was asked to go around and play eachothers and give our helpful opinions. I went around and checked some of my classmates games out and really liked them. But of course my game had a lot of deffects at first. Like coding was very difficult and having a good graphic idea of the hero and player as well as the win and lose screen.

One of the games that I played and really liked was Hannah Osborne's game. It was a mouse, cat, cheese theme. You (the mouse) had to jump over cats to get to the cheese. I thougth it was super fun but at the same time it was kind of difficult which posed a challenge.

I also played our teacher's game which obviously was very well done. His had a very simple theme, but That was the unique part about it. The originality factor and I liked that part.

Our Struggles

So far while working on our platform game I have had many issues as well as other students. It is very complex in my opinion too. Codes are hard, and not getting confused is common. But I think we all understand that it is for the better and eventually it will get easier!

Some things are easy though, like drawing and converting to a symbol and even tween. I really enjoy creating characters exspecially because we all get to do something unique.

Even though there are a lot of hard things, there are also some easy things and eventually it will all work together and that is a very good thing!

3 things I've learned

Will working on our game example, I've learned how to add codes to our game. You simeply push F9 then you'll be able to purse your codes so that your game will work.

I learned how to expand your area also. I assume there are many ways how to do it but I did it by creating a line thne making the length to 5,000. It gave me so much more room to work.

I learned how to create a platform too. You just make a lot of little rectangles (but still big enought for a character to jump to) then convert it to a symbol and add your codes.

Were we are now...

We are in the process of creating our game. We have deffiantly accomplished three things by now, if not more. We have created a title, a loading scene and an instrustion scene. In the paragraphs below I will tell you about them.

First, our Title Scene is nearly complete. The only thing that is left is buttons. I am waiting to add buttons after I get a few other scenes finished. It has three perimids on it, in a very cartoonish style. It has "Tombs of Mummies" writtin across the top then our team name down below it.

Second, our first loading scene is done. It also has a cartoonish style. The Camel is shown walking across a sandy area while a "loading" sign is in the corner. after the camel has walked across two times, a "done" symbol appears. eventually I will make it a button for you to click on the go to the next scene.

Last, our instrustion scene is complete. It is yellow and blue -both boy and girl colors- and have an "instructions" sign on the top. It describes what you need to do in the game. I have two back and forward buttons but they still need to be working.
