Game Demo

We created our game demo to show our ideas that we have about our game. We were able to make an item move, which I personally think showed that we were capable of making a game. We were able to get advice that was very useful from our classmates and from the globaloria experts.

My partner and I tried extremely hard to keep good pace and neither to shout nor mumble.  We were very nervous but we understood that if we messed up, how embarrassed we would be or if they would catch that and say something about it.

Game Demo Presentation

During our game presentation you should speak about things on every slide, even if it is purhaphs a Primary GAme Scene and it has no words, then you should talk about that slide. Tell what you do on it and things like that.

You should have at least 7 slides. Including, Primary game scene, Game play, Instruction scene, Game title, Fun factor, Smart factor, Learning goal, and Originality Factor.

You need to speak loud enough for people tto understand yuo good enough also. You shoukd have decorations on evry page also. Mak eit unigue and original.

Our GAme Skeleton

Three things that was hard with our game skeleton was, finding good decoration, decided how to word things, and how to make our person move. In my blog, not only will I discuss the issues that I had with it but also the simplest parts. Picking beautiful colors was very simple for me, Picking fonts, and mostly just experimenting with Flash.

Finding good decorations was difficult because this is my first year of globaloria and Flash was something new for me so I wasn't familiar with it. It was hard to find good decorations that I liked because I didn't know how to find certain things or if they would be pretty or not.

Deciding how to word things was hard too because I didn't know how to say pacific things and I really had to think about it, but it seemed like every time I was about to type, It just wouldn't come out right for some odd reason. I had to work really hard to find good words to put on our game skeleton.

The hardest, most difficult thing I had to do though was be able to make our person move. I still wasn't too familiar with flash and codes are still difficult for some more experienced students. I didn't know where to go to find the codes or were to put them because I had practically forgotten everything since the rabbit and carrot experiment.

While Presenting

If you or anybody else is presenting something then you should make sure that you talk firm and loud, Stand straight and try not to stutter. You SHOULD talk with expression,

While presenting your game skeleton you need to speak with expression. This means if, for example, you’re saying something interesting then your tone should catch somebody’s attention. The viewers could get more into the mood of your presentation which will make you a better presenter.

You should also Talk loud enough so that people don’t have to strain to hear you because then they won’t be comfortable and won’t enjoy it. Also talk clear so people won’t just catch parts and skips of it, but precisely all of it. Talking loud will also catch their attention.

You need to stand up straight too, because it’s more proper and while giving a presentation you need to be as proper as possible. It will make you look more sophisticated also, which is always a good thing in my opinion.

Also, plan out the words in your head before you say 5them so that it will decrease your chances of stuttering. Stuttering can be a bad habit and will possibly lead to embarrassment later on. If you pre plan then that will help.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for happiness and thanks. Most of us don't know but we should even be thankful for being able to wake up every morning. I personally think I have a lot to be thankful for. I am grateful to be healthy, and for having clothes because I know that some people aren't healthy and some people don't always have clothes. I am thankful because I make good grades and I am in Globaloria and Spanish. I am grateful because my family really cares about me.

One thing that I am extremely grateful for is the places I have been. I have been to California to see Sequoia National Forest, I've been to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore, I've been to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, and I've been to Wyoming to see Yellowstone National Park and I know that most people that live in Iaeger have never been to places like that so I am very grateful for the trips that I have taken. I am practically grateful for everything that I have, everything that I've done, and everything that I've seen. Happy Thanksgiving!

Mini Game

Finding the codes and figuring out the steps was very difficult when it came to the point where we had to work on our mini game. It was something that wasn't handed to us either, we had to work really hard just on one step, and we had to do nine of them. It was complicated for me because I got so confused when it came to the point where we had to get codes so that our mini game items could move.

It was also complicated because this is my first year of globaloria and it was very complicated to understand all the codes and how to make things move, and because I wasn't familiar with flash, that just made it more difficult. But after I figured it out a little bit, It was actually sort of fun. To me it was fun because we got to become more familiar with flash and communicate with our friends if we needed help.

Our teacher also help us a whole lot. They went through it step by step and answered all of our questions. So in conclusion, making our mini game was difficult at first and I thought that I would never  understand it but eventually I figured it out and became familiar with flash and then it became sort of fun in away. And to me the best part was when I finally accomplished it and the great feeling of relief, and pride.

Team work

There are two major things that I like about our game so far. I love our Loading scenes and Our Title Page! I like the loading scene because it looks like it is actually loading. It was difficult to figure out but with some help, My Partner and I were able to figure it out! I like the title scene because I think it looks very unique. I also had to insert some Key Frames and make some objects move! On the other hand I also think that our level two needs some editing done to it. I would like to be able to make the clouds move and things like that, but it’s difficult, but I'm sure my Partner and I will figure it out!

I really enjoy having my partner there to help me. I think that he is really dedicated to this and will work his hardest, the same as I will. We Share ideas very often and tell each other our opinions and work together to make sure we are both satisfied. For example, while I'm working on a Level one scene, he'll be working on a level two scene, and while we are working we will ask each other if there are any changes that need to be made. I think that we are very good at communicating with each other also. I am very satisfied with my partner.

Right now we are working on our Congratulations scene, but after we finally get done with that we need to go back and do a lot of editing to all of the other scenes, Like Improving them and correcting spelling mistakes and change some colors of a couple objects. We have made very good progress!

Our Game

The concept of our game is to show the player some of the items as well as let them learn some new fun facts that are interesting while you're learning. By the time the player has completed the two levels they should know at least seven knew facts. Our topic is Mummification in a way. After Nun (That is the character you will be playing as) Has passed away, you now have to receive Items that will be placed in his tomb, such as an Ankh, Gold, and A book of spells.

While we were discussing our game, we would think of something cool and just blurt it out and if our partner liked it then we would continue to grow on that idea. Finally it came to the point where we both liked a bunch of really neat ideas and so then we found a way to combine them.

A lot of researching went into this game actually. We both didn't know that much about items that needed to be placed in a tomb, so we had to do a lot of research of what Items were needed and why they were needed. We also had to research the characters name. We found a bunch of Egyptian names and ’Nun’ stuck out to us, not only because we liked the name but because it meant 'ruler of the ocean' And we assumed that the ruler of the ocean would have more items that would need to be placed in the tomb.

We worked together really well actually. We comprehended and communicated. We worked together and individually by taking on different roles. While one was coloring our paper prototype the other one would be drawing another scene.

Our game play has changed a lot since the first idea. At first we were sort of thinking about a maze or a puzzle but know you have to jump up and catch clouds. That was a very big change for us. The Title also changed a lot during the process. At first it was Nun, the tomb mummy, and a lot of other things but now it's Tomb of the mummy.

Inserting a key frame has been very helpful for us, because we can allow things to move on the screen which has been very helpful, especially while creating a loading scene. My partner and I discovered how to make items move from an 8th grader and our teacher, and at first we couldn't get the hang of it but eventually it became very easy.

The most difficult thing so far was getting started on our game. There were so many ideas but yet for some reason it was so difficult. We had to figure out what we wanted the goal to be, how they could learn while having fun, the research was very difficult to, but we worked together and pulled through and know, after accomplishing that, I think we can do nearly anything.

Quiz Games

We were recently showed the difference between a quiz game and a regular game. With the Quiz game, they asked a lot of questions, but with the other game, it was fun and we learned some facts that we didn't know. I personally think that a regular game is a lot more fun and I think that people would like a regular game better then a quiz game also. My partner and I are not going to do a quiz game either.

We are going to have the character catch items and then when they catch the correct one, a fun fact will pop up. A quiz game is also boring and not fun. And I also think that kids will just click on random answers instead of actually reading them, and I actually think that kids will read the fun facts because they are fun and interesting, and that is why we are not doing the quiz game.

Ideas

Lately we have been thinking about ideas for a game. Our topic is social studies, and in my opinion and for some others, this is in a sense, a hard topic. I think that it should involve Old history and some very recent history and be multiple choices.

This is something that we have to put a lot of thought into, and think about for a long time. It will take two minds, so we have a partner, and I'm glad we do because I don't think I could do this by myself. We haven’t discussed much but I think it would be cool if the player was driving a limo and they were on the freeway and a question pops up and then they have to jump over the correct answer!

You really need to open up your imagination when it comes to game design. It could be about ancient Civilization, or the wars or practically anything history related. There are some many possibilities! All you need is creativity and imagination and you can create an awesome and unique game.

Globaloria so far

So far, globaloria has been a wonderful experience and despite all the hard work, I've really enjoyed having this class as a part of my life. I am so grateful to have this class. I look forward to having it next year and the rest of this year! I am proud to say that I am a part of Globaloria!

This class is also frustrating sometimes! The codes and instructions are very confusing and it can make you mad really easily because sometimes it takes a while to get the hang of it. For example, when we was doing the Mini game project steps, At first I couldn't understand the codes to make the carrot move but eventually I figured it out and was very proud of myself. Then I had problem with uploading the steps to my wiki page but eventually I figured it out to.

So In conclusion, this class is a wonderful experience but like everything in life, it gets frustrating sometimes and you may think that you won't be able to figure it out and eventually you do and then you feel relief and pride and that is a very wonderful feeling. This class also makes you feel smart, and like you have something to brag about and actually you do! So I am proud to be a part of Mr. Addairs 7th grade globaloria class!

Chimamanda Adichie

What does it mean to have a single story? It means that when somebody meets one person from a place that they've never been and they automatically assume that everybody else from that place is like that. It means not to judge a region just because you meet one person and automatically assume that the rest of the region is like that one person. Judge people separately instead of assuming just because you have only heard one story of that place or meet one person from there. Everybody is different and there is never a single story.

When I hear people talking about Iaeger when I am away from home, they speak of people who smoke marijuana and people who have bad drug addictions. Because I live in Iaeger, I am sometimes offended by this statement but then I understand why they said it. I do know that there are people here that smoke Marijuana and who have bad drug addictions, and I know that there is more than one person who has these problems. Because People always talk about people having these problems than people think that we only have a single story, even though I know there are some people who grow up and get an education instead of getting bad addictions to drugs.

Growing up I always heard people talking about Paris, Expensive clothes and elegant food, People who glide across the floor out of habit. I was never told about how there are people there who sometimes have to go home to a empty house and sleep on the floor or about people who beg for money on the side of the road. I had only been told a single story of Paris. I obviously know now that I'm older; I understand that not everybody can buy elegant food or wear fancy, expensive clothes. This was a single story of Paris that I was always told.

A game could educate people about places that often have a single story. They could the game character in a 'single story' Environment. And let the player see how people there might have cars or how possibly they live on the road and maybe how diverse everybody is and make the player see and understand that there is never a single story, and it's not too good to assume.

Research

A few days ago, we had an assignment. It was to research a tree octopus. We looked through website after website trying to find some information about it. After about an hour of research we finally figured out that it wasn't real, it was an internet hoax. The point of the assignment was to teach us that we can't trust everything on the internet. Even though there was many, many websites that said "yes, this creature is real" there was maybe only one or two websites that said "no, this is an internet hoax". We all believed it was real until, finally we were told, and some of us figured that it was a myth because we went to a wiki page. We did learn though that you can't trust everything that you read on the internet!

Yesterday we had another assignment. This was to play with Flash, and it was called a mini game project. We got to experiment with flash (the program that we will be using to help create our game). We played with the mini game template to. And move bunnies around and it was actually very interesting to see how last year’s globaloria students created there games.

Yesterday we also did a eluminate session. A woman talked to us on the smart board while we did what she told us to on Flash. We made copies of our carrots and made them move. We also made copies of wolves and mushroom. It was fun because we got experiment while we learned and remembered. It was very helpful, but also had fun.

Playing To Learn

For the past two days we have been playing to learn. We play the video games that other globaloria students have created. We have been doing this to get some good ideas for our games. This has been a very important and fun thing for me. I have got some unique ideas too.

So far my favorite game is 'Tempest in Crescent City'. It is educational and fun at the same time, and I think that is very hard to do. For example I learned that after a Hurricane, there is a lot of trash left behind. I like to dodge the flying objects and swim through trash on the game.

My second favorite game is Sigma Prime. It's very unique I think. It’s also educational and fun at the same time. The instructions give very important details like they are suppose to. It has given me some ideas and I'm very thankful for that.

I have benefitted from this assignment too! And I'm sure my class mates have to. Just by doing this assignment "playing to learn" I have gotten some great ideas and learned some important things too! I now know how important it is to make sure all your buttons are working and how important you instructions are! This has been very helpful.

Globaloria

So far, my experience has been a delight to have been a part of. It's a very helpful class and I know that in the future, this class will be a good thing. For example, when I apply for a college I now have a better chance at being accepting for that college. I think that technology is very interesting. I always feel spontaneous when I sat down at the computer and accomplish an assignment.
So far I have been participating in this class for nearly three weeks. It is a very enjoyable class and I am proud to be a part of it. I enjoy learning about computers and game technology. The teacher is very helpful and the other students are to. When I need help with an activity, I simple ask the teacher for help, after I have tried to figure it out myself. I am very glad that I am a part of this class. It is very enjoyable. I expect to have made a game and know technology very well by the time that I am done with this class. I have learned how to make a wiki page and a lot of other interesting things.
